The ALLENTOWN MUSIC CLUB and the CELEBRATE STRINGS, which is sponsored by the National Federation of Music Clubs in America, is once again announcing they will offer their Annual String Award.
It is to be presented on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Club meeting held at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Rd, Allentown at 2 P.M. The prize of eight hundred dollars ($800) is offered to a graduating Lehigh County or Northampton County high school senior in recognition of progress in the study of a stringed instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass, and classical guitar).
The official performance requirement is a 10-15 minute program including one concerto movement or a movement of a Bach unaccompanied sonata.
However, due to students being busy with District and Regionals during the upcoming weeks, the club has agreed to allow the district orchestra piece or any other piece of similar difficulty, unaccompanied. We are hoping this will allow more students to apply for this award.
Interested students should email both: info@AllentownMusicClub.com and Varsha Phadke, varshap@gmail.com.
Deadline for application (extended) to Saturday, February 16, 2025.
Audition date: February 23, 2025
Award presentation and winner performance: March 1, 2025 (performance is mandatory to receive award)
Performance requirement: One concerto movement or a movement of a Bach unaccompanied sonata OR district piece with or without accompaniment. Performers can bring their own accompanist to the audition if required. For the performance in March, the club may be able to provide an accompanist if needed.
Email the application to the String Award committee: info@AllentownMusicClub.com and varshap@gmail.com.
The winner must perform at the Saturday, March 1, 2025 program to receive the award.
