2014 (First) Winner of Dr. Albert Hofammann Scholarship for Young Pianists
Shaumik Phadke is a sophomore at Parkland High School who currently studies piano with Darlene Ziegler and for the past 9 years with Grace Mealey. He is the son of Sameer and Varsha Phadke. He consistently earned Superior or Superior Plus ratings in National Piano Guild Auditions, the Dorothy Sutton Performance Festival and the LV-PMTA Achievement Award Auditions. Shaumik is a member of the Young Musicians Club since 2008. In 2013 he won the Summer Camp Award from the Allentown Music Club and used the scholarship to attend the Summer Jazz Camp at Moravian College. Last summer he attended the Piano Camp at the Honors Music Institute at Penn State.
Shaumik played keyboard for Parkland’s 2014 spring production of The Wizard Of Oz and placed as a piano accompanist for the District Chorus two years in a row. Shaumik’s piano accompaniment experience includes: the Parkland High School Concert Choir; solo performers (voice, alto saxophone and violin) at the Young Musicians Club meetings; and vocal students at the studio of vocal teacher Gail Grossman. Shaumik also received a few organ lessons from Jane Ellen Knotek, Director of Music Ministry, where he occasional accompanied some special services at the Zion “Liberty Bell” Church. This past year he performed with the Allentown Band under the direction of Ronald Demkee.
At Parkland High School, he is a member of the Math Honor society. He participates in Science Olympiad and was part of the Parkland team that went to the Nationals competition in Florida. He plans to continue music education in college while taking courses to major in Mathematics.
